Wooden Wall Decor Dragonfly

The body of this butterfly is hand-carved from a solid piece of mango wood. After shaping the body, the artist then carefully carves elegant lines create a segmented body bringing this piece to life. The artist hand-presses the veiny structures into the galvanized metal wings. The contrast of the metal wings to the warm, wooden body provides a modern farmhouse appeal. As an added touch, two small antennae are attached to the head as a final detail to this beautiful piece-of-art.

Construction:
The frame of the piece is hand-carved into shape using sustainably sourced mango wood from mango farms. The primary purpose of Mango trees is to bear fruit, but after its fruit-bearing lifespan ends, the tree is harvested which provides the farmers with a second source of income. The metal of the wings are hand-pressed to show the veins of the insect´┐Żs wing. It hangs on a triangle picture hanger.

Capiz is an oyster shell and the primary purpose of the oyster is as a source of food. However, the by-product, the shell, can be used for decoration. Due to it being a natural material, the natural colors of the capiz come through as tans and browns underneath the paint.
